For those in Texas, you survived your state government's attempt to kill you. Now to the plants. I lost a pomgranite. Froze down to the ground. We got to -3 here in my part of Texas. My Lantana froze down to the ground and came back almost as soon as the ice melted. My roses never missed a beat. I have Fairy rose, Caldwell Pin, Westerland, Peggy Martin, Yellow Rose of Texas, and one knock out rose. So all those survived and seemed to love it. Dianthus. People these little flowers kept blooming under the ice. My Amaryllis did fine. My Canna lilies froze back to the ground and reappeared almost as soon as the ice melted. The Turks cap shrubs, no problem. Came right back. The Lioripe My daffodils froze. They were in full bloom, but they seem to have survived alright. I was really worried about one of my oak trees. The big Water Oak in my front yard was really damaged. I won't know the full extent until probably next summer. All in all, I lost very little. Half of one of my Crepe Myrtles froze back, but I can trim it up. I did lose my 15 year old Gardenia. I knew it was good to 19, but that -3 got it. It is, however, coming back from the root. Also, my son's loquat tree in Houston survived. That was a real surprise. We will always survive and so do most of our plants.
I made shelter for the birds. I took some pet carriers, filled them with leaves and covered them with leaves, leaving the opening visible. They did use it. I also went through a ton of birdseed.
